Biography

Mr Desai is a Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon with specialist in interest in operations for ischaemic valvular heart disease and diseases of the aorta. He also performs “off-pump” or “beating heart” cardiac bypass surgery. His private practice is based in the Guthrie Clinic at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust where he was appointed as a Consultant in 1990.

He trained at the University of Glasgow Medical School and gained surgical training in the West of Scotland Rotation. After early training in cardio-thoracic surgery in Glasgow, he moved to Hammersmith Hospital, London, for further training. Following some time at St Mary’s Hospital (Paddington), he became Senior Registrar at Hammersmith, Harefield and Middlesex Hospitals and was a visiting fellow at Barnes Hospital (St Louis) in the U.S.A for 3 months before being appointed to King’s College Hospital as Consultant in June 1990.
