Biography

Professor Ingvar Bjarnason is a consultant physician and gastroenterologist who offers a world-class service for the diagnosis and treatment of all gastrointestinal diseases. Internationally known for integrating research with clinical work, he brings over 30 years' experience as a world leader in the treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases such as Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn's Disease, the investigation and treatment of small bowel diseases such as NSAID-enteropathy, Irritable Bowel Syndrome and many other aspects of gastrointestinal disease. Prof Bjarnason graduated from the University of Iceland in 1977 and started specialising in gastroenterology in 1980. He worked at the MRC Clinical Research Centre at Northwick Park Hospital from 1981 until 1990 when he then joined King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
