Biography

Dr Alastair Baker is Clinical Lead of Paediatric Hepatology and Nutrition at King's College Hospital. Dr Baker was appointed as a Consultant at King's in 1993 and established the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at the hospital.

He treats children with acute liver failure, metabolic liver disease, chronic liver disease and children who require liver transplantation and provides paediatric portal hypertension services including medical endoscopy.

Dr Baker has many research interests including growth and nutrition and their endocrine and metabolic mechanisms in liver disease.

He is the National President of the British Society for Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition where he has a long standing interest in the development of clinical networks of care. He has served two terms as the liver representative on the RCPCH CSAC post graduate training committee.

Dr Baker also has over 120 peer reviewed papers and many book chapters. He is a regular reviewer for several professional medical journals.
