Biography
Mr Thompson has an interest in all aspects of urology with particular interest in benign and malignant disease of the prostate, bladder and testes. He has considerable experience in managing prostate cancer for which he sees both national and international patients. Mr Thompson has shown great commitment to teaching and training, having been Royal College of Surgeons tutor, programme director and regional adviser. Mr Thompson is a frequent guest lecturer at the Royal Society of Medicine, the Capital and Peking University Hospitals Beijing, China and the Sri Lankan Urological Association, Colombo. He has been made a honorary member of both associations. He was founder member and convenor of teaching open urological surgical techniques at the Royal College of Surgeons. He is also past President of Urology section of the Royal Society of Medicine. Mr Thompson trained at King’s College Hospital and his earlier surgical training was in London and the South East. He then spent 18 months in South Africa before returning to King’s and the Institute of Urology, London, to complete his urological training. He was originally jointly appointed to King’s College and Dartford Hospitals to become full time and the clinical lead in Urology at King's. Mr Thompson is also Consultant Urological Surgeon to King Edward 7th Hospital in Bermuda and visiting honorary professor to the Capital and University Hospitals of Beijing. He is also Urological Surgeon to the Association of Retired Naval Officers. Mr Thompson has been Urological Advisor to AXA PPP and his fee scale is agreed and fully covered by both AXA PPP and BUPA.
